Known for its uncanny likeness to the much-loved kitchen utensil, The Cheesegrater (or The Leadenhall Building as it's more formally known) is London's ninth tallest building at 225m high. It officially opened in October 2015, and the ceremony was attended by Prince William and Harry as well as the developers British Land and Oxford properties. The building was designed by Richard Rogers, a British architect known for his modernist and functionalist designs in high-tech architecture.
Unsurprisingly, most of the The Cheesegrater is home to businesses in the finance sector, including Aon who occupy ten floors and the independent insurer MS Amlin who have the penthouse suite on level 45. However, level 30 is dedicated to providing flexible workspace to SMEs, and a desk there might not be as expensive as you think.
A piece of the cheese
An office in the Cheesegrater is calculated on a per desk, not per square foot basis. As a guide, a single desk space on the 30th floor starts at £650 per month, and increases in line the with the quality and positioning of the space. So an eight person office will cost an average of £5200 per month, and a 20 person office will cost around £13,000 per month, give or take. When you consider the reputation of the building and its location, it's quite a reasonable price.

A glittering new neighbour
The Cheesegrater is soon to have a new companion! Previously coined "Cheesegrater II', The Diamond will be built next door to The Leadenhall Building after three smaller buildings have been demolished. It'll stand 263m tall, making it London's fourth tallest building. Although objections were raised by St Paul’s Cathedral, the City’s planning and transportation committee voted in favour of the new build. The application will be passed to the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, for his final decision soon.
