What are the benefits of a rural office?

The most coveted and costly office space tends to be found in central business districts of major cities like London, New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo. But there are benefits too to be found from using high-quality offices in more rural or at least far less hectic locations.

Here we’ll take a look at just what those advantages can be.

Low costs

As we’ll see, there are numerous reasons why a business of any size might choose to avoid city centres and head for more rural retreats but there is no sense denying the notion that the clearest incentive is to keep costs as low as possible. And that goes for more than just headline rental rates too, with out-of-town space often costing less to maintain, furnish, access and staff.

Logistical advantages

Often the precise nature of advantages, to be gained in operating from rural office space, will depend on the logistical challenges that a particular company tends to face. However, it can be the case that not being in a city centre makes it far more straightforward for businesses to access road networks and make lighter work of getting goods and people in and out of a specific location.

Purpose-built facilities

Rural locations afford office developers the opportunity to start from scratch and create sites with specific purposes and kinds of client in mind. Out-of-town business parks, therefore, often come to function as effective small business clusters where companies can both compete and collaborate to worthwhile effect.

Wide choice of destinations

The process of looking for office space isn’t always straightforward, particularly if your options as a business are limited to city centres for any reason. So the freedom of being able to consider rural locations can be advantageous when it comes to negotiating terms and finding precisely the office occupancy deal that meets your needs.

Growth opportunities

Another advantage of rural offices is that once a company is settled in a particular location then there is more likely to be ready access to a variety of similar office options, which won’t always be the case in a big city where demand is high and quality space can be at a real premium.

Red carpet treatment

There is no hard and fast rule that says all rural office spaces will be served by local communities that are keen to have them stay, but it can and often is the case. This enthusiasm can sometimes manifest itself as financial incentives from local councils and can deliver benefits too in terms of long-term commitments from locally-based experts and employees.

So, for small businesses and large corporations alike, there are plenty of reasons at least to consider the prospect of setting up in a rural or out-of-town location, even if the lure of city centre offices eventually proves too strong to resist.
